Where We Began!

Paul Headley was born in 1963 and first established the business in August 1990 when he bought an old Volvo F12 and hired a bulker trailer.

He started contracting for Reson and Busby in Hull, until they hit financial difficulties and seized trading.

In 1991 Paul started subcontracting for Viking Cereals at Grantham and had his lorry sprayed in their colours cream and brown. He bought his second lorry in 1996 and employed a full time driver. Paul continued to expand the business and had four lorries and four bulkers subcontracting for Viking Cereals full time. He had also invested in two more lorries pulling curtainsiders for Smeets Ferry moving them from Immingham Docks to different sites over all the UK. Viking Cereals seized trading in 2002 so Paul had to find other subcontracting work.

Paul then started subcontracting for F Hobman & Sons and still is to this day over twenty three years on. He has invested in newer lorries and bulkers over the years and has them sprayed in his own colours of blue and white.

Headley Straw!

About Fifteen years ago Paul was at a conference with friends and farmers. One of the farmers had a straw contract with Drax Power Station to supply straw for burning to produce electricity. The farmer asked if Paul would invest in buying his own wagon and drag to move the straw for him, which he did.

After about Eighteen months Drax Power Station asked if Paul would be interested in selling and delivering them straw. So he invested in another wagon and drag and started buying straw from farmers and selling it to Drax. Over the next few years Paul had his own contract with Drax and needed more farmers to let him buy their straw. We expanded the business and invested in our own tractors and balers so we could bale and deliver the straw. Drax eventually gave up burning straw and concentrated on burning biomass wood pellets.

We then got a contract with Sleaford Power Station, this then led to a signed twelve year contract with Brigg Power Station.

We also bale and deliver Miscanthus to various Power Stations in the UK.
